I’m not great at finishing projects unless I have a deadline, but I did it. This cowl was the perfect combination of fast and easy for me to be able to finish it in one week. Actually, it would only take a couple of nights to make, but my attention span is shorter than most. I get distracted by shiny things and am off on another tangent quicker than you can blink.
I even learned a few things with this project. I had never heard of or tried the knit one below or purl one below stitch before, so I had to look it up (see video instruction here). Knitting and purling into the stitch below makes the extra large ribbing and gives the cowl stretchiness. I also learned a new-to-me stretchy cast off method when I looked up the best way to cast it off loosely.
Here is the original picture for the cowl – I think mine is very close. The model does a much better job at showing it off than I do. I am not photogenic and normally stay behind the camera, but there were no victims around to photograph this afternoon.
The pattern is a free pattern by Bernat (which I didn’t find out until after I’d already bought the booklet – though there are a few sweaters in the booklet that I might try as well). Just in case you would like to give it a try, here it is.
