This is my digital Christmas card for 2012. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! I may write something over the holidays, but then again I might just take a little break.
Finally, the tree is up. I tried to take a good photo, but with the low light and my suicidal camera (it jumped off the piano last Christmas while we were all eating dinner and has never been quite the same since), it just wasn’t happening tonight. And I ran out of steam after trying to dust the drywall dust off of EVERY surface of my house. Who knew that a powder room renovation could be so intrusive?
This year’s Santa hat photo also didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped. I knew it was doomed right off the bat when I could only find one hat, which meant I could only take one photo at a time. But I also had low expectations of myself this year and didn’t send out Christmas cards, so the only copy of this will be the one in the frame on top of the piano. Next year I’ll do better.
And for your entertainment, I leave you with The Twelve Days of Christmas, as re-written by the tall hormonal kid (I bet you can’t read it without singing inside your head):
The Twelve Days of Christmas
by Charley
On the twelfth day of Christmas my hockey wish will be:
Twelve Stanley Cups,
Eleven free ice times,
Ten break-aways,
Nine backyard ice rinks,
Eight NHL players,
Seven coaches reffing,
Six water bottles,
Five HOCKEY BAGS,
Four scrimmages,
Three hat tricks,
Two pairs of skates,
And a lock-out free season!
I hope you have a marvelous Christmas and NY too!
And you, too.
Merry Christmas Heidi to you and your family….I love the ‘twelve days of Christmas’ re-write…Diane
Thanks! Enjoy your holidays.
Now I know you have passed on your sense of humor to your children without a doubt, I had suspected with the video of them playing with your phone… Tell your daughter I am with her, no more lockouts for any sport I like. That doesn’t include baseball, they can lock out if they want. Merry Christmas!
They do each have a good sense of humour. It helps, when you live in a madhouse. Merry Christmas to you too.
Too sad about the Santa photos!
And nobody sees the drywall dust, just this…
Glorious!! O Christmas Tree…
Light and lustre, jewels cluster; cotton hooked with care
Wooden berries circle ’round a kitten playing there.Â
Old and new, our faith renew; another year is spentÂ
And o’er all the lovely smell of spruce boughs laden-bent…
I like the poem..
Though glorious it wasn’t when I got up at 5am and found it on its side in a pool of water on my hardwood floor, ornaments smashed all around it. We’ve cleaned and mopped, hung up an oriental carpet to dry and wired it to the wall. Tonight we’ll decorate it for the second time..
It’s not a normal day at our house without a few challenges.
Oh. NO! But hey, now that you mention it – this whole Christmas tree ritual – I remember my parents using an old 40lb honey pail with chunks of concrete wedged in around the trunk and yes, every now and then, the odd piece of guy line anchored to the baseboards (man, you’ve gotta love old farmhouses, eh?) and maybe just a smidgeon of picturesque language flying about as well?; )
Thanks for jogging loose some great memories and sorry about your tree… But at least you got pictures; )
I should probably have taken pictures of the tree gone sideways. And I’m almost certain that because of my potty mouth this morning I’m getting coal in my stocking. I think the tree is now permanently wired to the house and it will become my brother’s problem when he moves in!
: ) hohoho lol!
Happy Christmas Heidi to you and your family, and a joyful 2013. I have received so much pleasure this year reading your blog. You have a lovely way with words. Best wishes. Jean.
Thank you! And same to you.
đŸ™‚
Great photo! I’m hopefully going to see my first ice hockey match in a couple of weeks and I’m so excited! It’s not a common sport over here and there aren’t too many ice rinks.
I understand your camera problem – I have a suicidal food mixer that does the same (probably from all the beatings!!).
Those mixers require a small beating on occasion to keep them in line. Have fun at your hockey game.
I love your Christmas card – thank you! I know what that that renovation/repairs can be like! But in the end, it will be worth it! Merry Christmas!
I have to admit that the new bathroom looks very nice and is almost worth all of the mess. Merry Christmas.
ugh! Renovation dust is the worst! Good luck and have a great Christmas!
We are finally done with the drywall dust – now we will enjoy the holidays. Merry Christmas to you, too.
Merry Christmas to you and your family, Heidi đŸ™‚
Merry Christmas to you, too!
Have a great week and I look forward to your return in the new year!
Enjoy the holiday! Do you have any snow out east yet?
Not a bit and not expecting any!
Love it!
Very witty!! Love the santa hat photos too! đŸ˜€
It was the best I could do this year. Poor things, I wonder how many more years they will allow the santa hat photo to be taken. Merry Christmas!
I’ll have to tell you a story about drywall dust and an angry tenant of ours one day. We remodeled their bathroom, and no, they weren’t grateful. đŸ˜‰ I love the re-vamp of the 12 days of Christmas! Merry Christmas to you and your family Heidi!
Hopefully my tenants will like the bathroom since we lived through the dust so they won’t have to.
Merry Christmas to you, too!
Oh, I think they will, besides, they’re family, right? đŸ™‚
This is great! I’m crazy about the poem…perfect! And you’re right, I couldn’t read it without singing, lol.
The pictures are so cool! The Christmas tree is so pretty (I love the light in that picture, and the header picture too) The girls are rocking there pictures too! Ahhhh, I feel a little more of that Christmas spirit now đŸ™‚ Have a wonderful holiday!
The Christmas tree is looking good again after we picked it up, wired it to the wall and swept up the broken ornaments. Geez..
Merry Christmas!
Oh My my…a tree laid low and a hockey poem to go… Heidi it is always such a pleasure to visit your blog. We have taken to wiring our tree each year as we once had such an event as you đŸ˜¦
Renovating a closet would produce enough drywall feh to choke a small village…imo… That is the singular thing I despise about a re-do. I’m sure you are loving the results though!
Merry Christmas to you all…and prayers for some snow, eh? Had a scant amount followed by rain last night.
*anna
We are getting a nice snowfall right now too, though it’s pretty warm, so I don’t have high hopes that it will stay. The bathroom is done, the tree is wired, the cookies and fudge are mostly made.. now if Santa would just come and do the mountains of laundry, I would be all set. Merry Christmas!
Love the 12 days of Christmas. Merry Christmas to you and your family adn all of your readers.
May all the tall hormonal one’s wishes come true and your version too Heidi. Merry belated Christmas and all good things in 2013 – may your house be warm (and free of drywall dust), may your stomachs be full (but not too full) may there be many hugs, lots of smiles, much laughter and health that sustains you and your family another year.
Thank you! I wish the same for you. Though our bellies might still be a little overfull of Christmas turkey, but I suppose there might be a resolution coming to help with that. Happy New Year!
