lavender cooling spray

It’s stinking hot here right now. I’m not overly enjoying it, though I can imagine that the tall hormonal kid’s 6th grade teacher is enjoying it even less right about now. Imagine a classroom that you can taste.

Anyway, for anybody who might be a little heat intolerant like me, or experiencing hot flashes, here’s something I made that cools and smells nice.

Lavender Cooling Spray

  • 1/4 cup rose water
  • 8 drops lavender essential oil
  • small spray bottle

Add rose water to the spray bottle. Add lavender essential oil. Shake the mixture vigorously prior to use. Spritz liberally to cool off.

* You can make it with peppermint essential oil too, but this smells more like summer to me.

safe enough to experiment with on your youngest child

Perfect timing! It’s stinking hot here too, and I sweat (um perspire) too easy.

  4. A sixth grade classroom you can taste…. Shudder! You need to send that teacher a couple of gallons of this stuff! I think I have some rose water I picked up a long time ago and never used. Time to search the cupboards…

  5. sounds lovely, it’s really hot here too! I like the heat normally, but this is getting to be too much.

Lovely idea! I’m a sweaty betty in the summer, so smelling like lavender is definitely a great alternative. 🙂

Ohhh, how I love lavender. I do this also w/ peppermint EO. MUST watch the face though, usually a few quick spritzes on the back of the neck & legs cools off quick.

I make a headache treatment with lavender, peppermint and frankincense. I used some of the treatment during Ragnar and noticed how cool my head felt during my run afterwards. I thought it was the peppermint, but it’s good to know the lavender will do the trick as well. I’m gonna make a little spray bottle!

    • And now I want to try yours, too. It can be made with peppermint too, you just don’t want to go over 8 drops, or it can have the opposite effect – it can heat up.

      • Somer says:

        Aha, good to know.

For the headache treatment, I put equal amounts of the above oils in a little oil jar. You apply the blend across the forehead, on the temples, behind the ears and at the base of the neck. Instant relief: Lavender is good for healing, peppermint is a distraction and the frankincense is an anti-inflammatory. If the headache isn’t completely gone within 10 minutes, you can keep applying the oils every ten minutes until it disappears. The most treatments I have ever had to do is 3. Plus it works much more quickly than any pain medication can, but without any harmful side effects 😉

  11. Essential oils are great for lots of things, never used lavender for cooling though. Will be trying that out soon. Thanks!

I can imagine that would be very refreshing with a beautiful fragrance. I do envy your heat though. We had no summer to speak of and now we’re in the depths of winter. Would love to feel the warm sunshine on my skin.

This sounds so refreshing! And it’s certainly warm enough here — plus!– to give it a good test! Thanks so much for sharing on Busy Monday at A Pinch of Joy. Hope to see you again soon!

I read this a while back and copied it into my notebook… then this week I made it – for a totally different reason! I wiped my benches with a sponge, and then everything smelt manky… So then I mixed this up (by eye rather than measurement) and then sprayed the bench and wiped it again. Happy days – smell gone, and everything smells ‘happy’ again! Thanks

Its scorching hot here but the next min its humid with low dark clouds, I definitely need this to cool myself! Pinning it and sharing it in my fb page~

  19. Esther says:

Where can we find rosé water? This sounds like the perfect combination!!

  20. Amy says:

I’ve done this often, only without the rose water. Just water and lavender essential oils in a spay bottle. My kids love it, too, and it’s especially great if you happen to get a sunburn!

  21. Marcia says:

This sounds great! I will try it when I get some rose water. I also make a spray similar to Amy’s, with the addition of a little rubbing alcohol. I spray it on liberally to deter insects, cool myself, and also just for an all over relaxed, good feeling. I adore Lavender, and rub just a tiny amount of the essential oil into my temples to calm a headache. I will definitely use Somer’s mix too…the combination sounds lovely.
