small things – lucky strike

One leaf is for FAITH.

The second is for HOPE.

The third is for LOVE.

And the fourth is for LUCK!

The small squeaky kid found a four leaf clover yesterday. After spending a few minutes on-line looking for possible projects for it, we discovered that they are often the result of a genetic defect in the root of the white clover plant. Therefore where there is one, there should be more. So we went on the hunt for more and found a whole patch of them. We’ve got them pressed in the pages of a few large books, awaiting some future crafty inspiration.

If you would like to find your own 4-leaf clover, or learn how to grow more once you find some, read this. Good luck!

Wow I’ve never found one of these, I always thought they were an urban myth.

  2. Until I found one the other day, I was beginning to think they were a myth–so glad they are not–thanks for the info link

I have not seen one in years! great shot too! c

    • Thanks! Too bad the kid wasn’t smiling though. I’d never found one myself, either. I guess she is closer to the ground than I am, so more likely to find them.

  5. My husband carries his around in his wallet. I had no idea what the leaves were all about but those are good things to carry around with you.

I remember “wasting” hours and hours of recess time searching the fields of the school yard for four leaf clovers. I don’t think I ever did find one…but I guess that’s what makes them special. It’s when you just happen to come across one that you truly have luck on your side. Thanks for this little story–it reminded me of some wonderful childhood times!

  7. Somer says:

How cute/cool is that?!? LOVE IT!

Fingers crossed for the rainbow, maybe a good day for lottery tickets as well! 🙂 UC is happy that squeaky kid found the scientific explanation!

  9. I never knew why the 4 leaf clovers have, well, four leaves. Thanks for explaining that. I’ve found a few in my lifetime, but am usually not patient enough to look for them. Thanks for sharing your post at the Your Cozy Home Party!

  10. When I was a kid My cousin was always finding them. Turns out her dad would change the oil of his truck out over the front yard.

  11. subtlekate says:

I remember finding them in Scotland when I was very little. How exciting, I am so glad you kept them.

  12. Marianne says:

What a lovely idea to laminate them on a card for a friend or loved one to keep in their wallet or purse. I must try that!

  13. […] We celebrated Mother’s Day at our house, entertained friends, we had some cousins come and visit and enjoyed a night out at the theatre. We even managed to find a few four leaf clovers. […]
