snow day and a tournament show and tell

SONY DSC

This was the scene outside of our front window this morning. It’s a little dark – but it’s still a little dark when we leave in the morning these days. The girls broke out into a happy dance the moment that they heard on the radio that school was cancelled for the day. They headed off to their Nan’s house for a day of early Christmas shopping. I still had to go to work.

And, because this is my spot to post family related news, here is a picture and short write-up about the tall hormonal kid’s recent hockey tournament in Ottawa. I’m impressed with how good 12-14 year old girl’s hockey is. It was an enjoyable weekend of hockey and getting to know the other team members and parents. Another sure sign that winter is starting in Canada.

Gloucester-Cumberland “Kickin’ Ice in the Capital” Tournament

Three regulation periods and an overtime period was not enough to decide the final game of the Bantam House League Division Gloucester Cumberland “Kickin’ Ice in the Capital” Tournament. The Ice Wolves Bantam Gold Team went undefeated in regulation and semi-final play to earn a berth in the finals. The team dominated play through all three periods of play and overtime and just could not find the back of the net. The game was finally decided in a shoot-out; the 4th shooter from the Russell Coyotes scored the winner. The Ice Wolves proved to be a strong force at the tournament allowing only 5 goals against in 5 games, while combining for a total of 16 Goals for. Through injuries, sickness and players missing in certain games, the girls banded together to provide some exciting Hockey, against some strong opponents. All in all their time spent in the Capital was an excellent bonding and Team experience. Congratulations Girls on being the Bantam House League Tournament Finalists.

  1. Snow days are the best! Unless you’re the mom who works from home. Or the mom who works, period!

  2. go team!
beautiful sight at your house–it is just darn cold here!

  3. If I’m reading it correctly it was a ‘tough’ loss…. but a good tournament…. The snow is beautiful isn’t it? Hope you’re keeping well…. Diane

Love the pic…I’m ready for some snow! Could you send some our way? :)

  5. Will you have many winter road trips? The snow is beautiful but! Snow days are a great concept – I almost always have to work – but even on a non-work day, I sometimes like the feeling of being “snowed in,” unless, you know, it starts to feel serious!

  6. I love your snow photo! Our new daughter-in-law from Senegal is visiting at Christmas and is so hoping for snow! :)

  7. I’m impressed that girls play hockey at all! That’s a bad A sport, lots of real physical stuff. I’m just so impressed you have no idea. Plus I love your snowy picture. Schools don’t get to shut down around here we have an occasional lock down, that’s always interesting.

What a lovely picture, if only it didn’t come with such cold temperatures. :-)

Wishing you a magical holiday season and all the good things in 2014! :)

So, what do you think?
